Our kitchen is in the middle of our home and behind the sink is an add on room that has mostly been functional for us when we have family over or parties since we have a large farmhouse table in that space and its not as accessible as the rest of the other rooms in our open concept house. We have an island but only has enough room for 2 barstools facing each other. I’ve always looked longingly at kitchens that had huge islands with enough room 4-5 barstools. Well, we found a way to make that happen! We added a butcher block bar top to being the sink area, selected a stain and then purchased 4 bar height stools. Let me tell you… Rob and I have sat here every night since they arrived and while I didn’t know how funtional this area would be for the kids, Landyn has requested and successfully sat here for lunch every day.
We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out and it was a relatively simple project. I’ve linked all of the items we used to build the bar top below – I was amazed that I could easily plan this project without leaving the house. I ordered both the bar top and the brackets and they were just as I envisioned. The brackets were supposed to go inside the 1/2 wall but the contractor said it would be much more labor intensive so we put them on the outside and moved forward. The stain I used with Zar Beach House with a Clear Satin Polyurethane finish.
Now on to the next project!
