Classic checkerboard floors have been trending for quite some time now. They will continue to be a featured tile pattern in renovations and new homes. But I do see the trend slowing a bit. There’s a new player in town… The Octagon and Dot tile! You heard it here first. The Octagon and Dot tile pattern is starting to have a moment. Slowly but surely this classic design decision is popping up in top interior designers projects from bathrooms, to entries, to mudrooms, etc. I know once I’ve seen a new design idea that has caught my attention 2 or 3 times, it’s sure to be a new trend!
Here are the first few places I saw this pattern and fell in love in recent design projects…
2. Serena and Lily Catalogue & the Architectural Digest article featuring this beautiful Charleston home. The first photo below was the photo I saw when I knew I wanted this tile for our Laundry Room Reno.
3. Source unknown but I love this entry and the tile makes it!
The tricky part about discovering a new trending interior design style or material is sourcing the look to create the look in your own home. I looked long and hard for the perfect Octagon and Dot tile for our laundry room renovation. There are a lot of zellige tiles in this pattern and I found a beautiful limestone options but I found them falling flat in our home. I wanted something more elevated, something more classic. I knew marble was the way to go but I was striking out finding the perfect scale. There are a lot of marble octagon and dot tiles that come in smaller scales but not the midscale that I was hoping for. I finally found what I was looking for in a new offering from Riad Tile. They have the most beautiful tiles and we have used their product before in our kitchen. While the Laundry Room isn’t quite complete, I couldn’t be happier with how the tile turned out. It is the perfect elevated classic look that has yet to be overdone.
Here are some sneak peek photos of our Laundry Room Reno and the beautiful Octagon and Dot Tile from Riad Tile.
What are your thoughts on this trend? Where would you put this type of tile? I foresee the Octagon and Dot being a classic revived pattern that will be showing up in more and more interior designers projects moving forward and I especially love the marble Riad Tile version.

I also love repeating patterns in our home and we have an octagon tile in our basement Power Room. See it here.
